Bloodaxe Vikings are a Viking, dark age and migration period re enactment and living history group, specialising in living history demonstration and historic combat display.
Living history is a discipline adopted by re enactors to show how people lived and worked within a relevant time period.
All members participate by giving informative talks and demonstrations of authentic skills and crafts adopted by the Vikings and dark age peoples. This incorporates authentic clothing, cooking, music and literature. This is delivered at official Living History events and also in educational settings such as Schools and Libraries.
For those interested in display combat Bloodaxe members can take part in re enactments of historical battles and also organised competitive events. Members are trained in the use of Swords, axes and shields and all manner of period authentic weapons for display purposes with the emphasis on safety and fun.
This is not to say that Combat is the only string to Bloodaxe Viking’s bow.
BloodAxe are also as much focused on the lifestyle/crafts and culture of life in the Viking times. Story telling and readings of famous poems and sagas of the period. Cooking is an area of interest as well as pastimes, crafts and games.
BloodAxe Vikings strike a healthy balance between the display combat and the day to day living history of what life was like in the dark Age period.
Bloodaxe Vikings are Northampton Town’s premier Viking Living History group, we aim to provide an educational service while enjoying and honouring the relative history and far reaching cultural influence of English and European dark age peoples.
We meet regularly outside of training and events to socialize and play games in the high end quality setting of the Olde England pub, owned and run by one of our founding members. The pub is very much the hub and social heart of the group.
We center all of our undertakings on fun, respect and involvement. The group maintains as much of an open door as the Olde England itself. All are welcome, although any potential members are subject to a probationary period to ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe and comfortable manner so that the continuity and long life of the group is ensured.
Each Bloodaxe member is an equal part of the group and all feel that Honour, camaraderie and mutual respect is the very sinew of its community. We each feel that we are part of something amazing on a social and spiritual level.
