In our approach to Living History we look at the history and politics of the period and keep abreast of the latest archaeological and academic findings on the subject.
What period do we focus on – We focus on the early Viking Age— the 8th Century and migrations periods.
Who do we look at for timeline references – King Alfred the Great is one particular historical identity that we use as a timeline focus.
When do we train and meet up Regular training is held twice monthly—and often can be up to 4 times a month.
Where do we meet up to train – Main training is in Northampton—we also train in Wellingborough /Rushden and Kettering.
Why should I get involved- If you love history and would like to experience it at a deeper level and get involved with a like minded
Group of people that share a common interest—also its a great way to make friends and attend large historical re-enactment events.
Re-enactment Combat
BloodAxe Vikings practice safety in all aspects and angels of everything that they do including Living History and Combat.
Re-enactment Combat is broadly 2 distinct areas that compliment each other—one is Display Combat—which is NOT competitive and is used to Demonstrate skills and techniques that Vikings and dark age warriors have in Combat situations. The other is Free style combat that uses a scoring points system
This is a lot of fun—and after a sufficient period of preparatory training in how to handle weapons and after a safety test—warriors can indulge in free style combat and compete in point scoring games which sharpen skills and proficiency with the weaponry and techniques.
Viking combat is not mandatory in joining the group and can be enjoyed as a visual part of the groups activities, non combatants can get involved with being Banner Barer or even get involved with the Archery unit that is currently being formed within the group.
